The basis for Hannes Rickli's Videogramme is the audio-visual material that is generated in biological laboratories in behavioural experiments with fish and insects by means of measuring, control and regulating equipment and recorded. After the scientific analysis, this material is generally no longer used and disappears from the normal circulation of images as excess. Rickli uses this otherwise barely to be seen by- or waste product for his artistic work; he places it in a new context and unveils the aesthetic and narrative potential of the material that is otherwise considered solely in the scientific context and published in the form of tables or charts.
